The USGS Earthquake Hazards Program is part of the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program (NEHRP), established by Congress in 1977, and the USGS Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS) was established by Congress as a NEHRP facility. Highlights
Santa Rosa's Past and Future Earthquakes
A new USGS factsheet discusses recent scientific research showing that Santa Rosa, CA is underlain by a deep sedimentary basin that has and will increase earthquake shaking. Earthquake scientists were also able to map the surface traces of the Rodgers Creek Fault through the area, and they think that it may connect to the Hayward Fault to the south. If so, the two faults together would be capable of producing a larger earthquake than previously thought.
